01Hosting

The database and the files are hosted in the European Union, and the content of your private messages never leaves it. The site goes through Cloudflare’s worldwide network, which only keeps public copies of it - photos of the works, which are public, may be copied there to show faster. A few pieces of data do leave the Union, and the “Who works for me” chapter of the Privacy Policy names them all: the app itself, distributed by Apple and Google; the notifications on your phone, which go through Expo, in the United States, then through Apple or Google, and carry only a short sentence I write myself - never a person’s name, the title of a work or the content of a message; sign-in codes, sent by Cloudflare; the mail you write to me, kept by Google; and payment data, which Stripe may transfer outside the Union under standard contractual clauses.

02Works stay with their authors

Every artist keeps the copyright on what they publish. By posting a work, they only allow me to show it on Arvel and in my presentation pages, for as long as it stays there. Buying a work gives you the object, not the right to reproduce it.

03The Arvel name and mark

Arvel’s name, mark and visual identity belong to me. They may not be reused without written consent.

04Where the map comes from

Arvel’s base map is drawn by me, from public data. The streets and roads come from the mapping of the National Geographic Institute (© NGI-IGN, licence CC BY 4.0 - creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0). The street names come from Belgium’s official address register (BeSt Address), maintained by the three Regions and distributed by the NGI: Brussels under CC-0, Flanders under its regional free-reuse licence, Wallonia under CC BY 4.0. The outlines of the country and its neighbours come from Natural Earth, which asks for no credit. I have simplified and re-cut this data for display; the colours are my own. The list of Belgian municipalities, their names and the point that locates them come from the same National Geographic Institute dataset, under the same licence. The map’s photo view is the INSPIRE orthophoto from the same National Geographic Institute (2023 and 2024 campaigns), under the same CC BY 4.0 licence; I have re-cut it into pieces for display.

05Reporting content

Plagiarism, a fake, a message that crosses the line: in the app, you report from the work, the profile, the post, the comment, the review or the conversation; on the site, without an account, from the page of a work, a profile or a post. I handle it without undue delay. For authorities and for you alike, the single point of contact is bonjour@arvel.be (EU Digital Services Act, art. 11 and 12): you can write there in French, Dutch or English.

06Mediation

If the claim process settles nothing, the Consumer Mediation Service can be called on free of charge before any court: Boulevard du Roi Albert II 8 box 1, 1000 Brussels - mediationconsommateur.be - contact@mediationconsommateur.be.
